AT Hike - October 2010

This was a combination basecamp weekend for younger scouts and a 13 mile backpacking trip (Sam's Gap to Spivey Gap) on the Appalachian Trail.

Morrow Mountain - March 2010

This was a combination basecamp weekend for the younger scouts working on advancement and a backpacking trip for the scouts going to Philmont this summer.  The weather was perfect.  Temperatures in the 40's at night and 70's during the day.  The basecampers had a lively campfire Saturday night with corny skits, and even cornier jokes!  Brownies cooked in a dutch oven were a highlight of the night.  Thanks, Mr. Latham!

South Mountain - August 2009

This was a combination backpacking trip for the older scouts and base camping trip for the younger scouts. The backpacking trip part of it was hard, very up and down, more often up. Wondering when we would reach the top of the final ridge. When we finally got to camp and got set up, boys went and explored the stream catching (and eating?) crayfish.

Lost Sea Caverns - March 2009

A great time was had by all. We entered the caverns by going through a decrepit looking entrance on the side of the mountain. We went down about 100 steps and then were in a large room about 3 football fields long in 3 different tiers. This is where we would sleep with a few hundred newly found friends. But first we went on a tour of the cave including a boat ride and some muddy crawls. Then we set up our beds near the latrines which gave off a most uncave like scent. The large cavern provided an excellent acoustic chamber for all the snorers in the groups! But as we were tired, sleep came fairly easily. In the morning, we broke camp, waited for our guide who led us back up the steps and into the fresh air and an awaiting breakfast.
